MTN reports, for the 50,000 Montanans still buying health insurance in the federal “marketplace” known as Obamacare, rates for 2019 policies may be going up just slightly or not at all. Federal subsidies likely will continue to offset costs for the majority of Montanans buying policies through the Affardable Care Act next year. Richard Miltenberger, CEO of Montana Health Co-op, said [quote] “It’s somewhere in the 85 percent to 90 percent of Montanans that buy health insurance on the exchange, that get a subsidy,” [end quote] The Health Co-op is one of three companies selling policies through the federal online marketplace. The others are PacificSource and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Montana. State Auditor Matt Rosendale will review rate proposals. Montanans who don’t have health coverage through their job or elsewhere can buy individual policies through the online marketplace.
