The National Weather Service forecast for the Billings area includes north winds 5 to 15 mph becoming westerly overnight, with wind chill readings as low as -35 degrees to -45 degrees. On Tuesday: Mostly sunny and still cold with southwest winds 10 to 20 mph creating wind chill readings from 35 to 45 degrees below zero with a high of 6 degrees.

The dangerous weather conditions led Billings Public Schools to cancel classes today. Superintendent Terry Bouck made the announcement Monday afternoon after meeting with other school officials. After decades without school cancellations due to snow days, SD2 ended that streak in 2015 after significant snowfall and cold temperatures.

A similar situation is playing out this week as record sub-zero temperatures are expected. Other school closures in the Billings area for Tuesday can be found online at KTVQ.com.
