The Billings Police Department is investigating the death of a man whose body was found Tuesday afternoon near trails on the Rimrocks. A woman, walking her dog on Rims trails, discovered the body and reported it to police at about 3:30 p.m. The Gazette reports that the man appeared to have died from a gunshot wound, and a gun was found near the body.

BPD Lt. Brian Korell said the investigation is ongoing, and while foul play in the death of the as-yet-unidentified man hasn’t been ruled out, preliminary findings suggest he died by suicide. The body was on a small plateau off the trail, according to Korell. Personnel from the Billings Police Department, Billings Fire Department and American Medical Response reportedly could be seen working in an area of the Rims above Mulberry Drive on Tuesday afternoon.
