KTVQ.com reports that after the Billings City Council failed to secure top city administrator candidate Greg Doyon it’s back to square one in finding a top notch chief executive, while retooling the contract parameters for new candidates.

The city will rely on interim city administrator Bruce McCandless to hold down the fort until his permanent replacement is found. Council members said that will result in a new contract for McCandless. Considering the immense duties of the administrator’s job, an assistant will be sought to help McCandless. A permanent administrator likely won’t start before September.

On Monday, councilors reflected on the missteps of the previous search, including how a contract with competitive compensation will be in place before the next round of negotiations begin. Before reviewing his contract in February, McCandless would finalize the budget process and other pending contracts.
