$1.28 million was awarded by the U.S. Labor Department in grants to fund the HB-1 visa program, and City College was among five regional community colleges to receive the America’s Promise Grant, which will focus on tuition-free education for veterans and displaced energy workers.  The grants focus on regional workforce and economic regions.  City College is part of the Educating Toward Economic Diversity Partnership, which includes Casper College, Laramie County Community College and the Northern Wyoming Community College District, encompassing Sheridan and Gillette colleges.
The grant is designed to increase opportunities through tuition-free training for middle-to high-skilled occupations and industries and refer employees with prior work experience, including military veterans, for an evaluation of their skills, according to a press release from City College.  BillingsWorks, a program of Big Sky Economic Development, was a partner in the grant process.  They sought the grant in part to aid dislocated workers from the energy sector.
