Dark Money Documentary Looks At Montana 2018

The potential impact of outside money on Montana politics is getting some timely attention from the documentary film called “Dark Money,” running in several Montana theaters. The film takes aim at political groups that don’t divulge the names of donors. One such group is the Montana chapter of Americans for Prosperity, founded by the conservative billionaire Koch Brothers, who intend to spend $400 million on the midterm elections, according to TIME magazine in January. AFP-Montana doesn’t disclose its donors, and has adjusted its efforts to comply with Montana’s 2015 Disclose Act. The law says if any communication by a group publicly mentions a candidate for state office within 60 days of an election in Montana, that group must reports its donors and spending.
