BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) _ First Interstate BancSystem Inc. (FIBK) on Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings of $37.9 million.

The Billings, Montana-based bank said it had earnings of 59 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions, came to 73 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 75 cents per share.

First Interstate BancSystem shares have risen 9.5% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $40.05, a decrease of almost 8% in the last 12 months.
