Gianforte, Daines Call for Vote on North American Trade Deal

On Wednesday, Congressman Greg Gianforte and U.S. Senator Steve Daines took to the floor of their respective chambers to urge immediate action on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Here is what Gianforte had to say.

“USMCA is a win for Montana and America, but here we are 355 days since President Trump signed USMCA,” Gianforte said. “The deal has gone nowhere in the House. So, what’s the hold up? The Speaker has stalled since the deal was announced. She objected to it, those objections were addressed, and yet here we are.”

Nearly one year ago, President Trump and leaders of Canada and Mexico signed the agreement which replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement.

“The House has 13 days left this year, 13 days to get this deal done,” Gianforte said. “It is up to Congress to act. The needless delays must end. The Trump administration has done its job and negotiated an agreement that works for Montana and our country. It is time for Congress to do its job.”

According to Daines, passing USMCA would help provide certainty and alleviate the challenges and obstacles Montana producers and ag related industries faced this tough season.

“While the democrats continue to obsess over impeaching our President, they continue to ignore the voices of our rural communities,” Daines said. “This unnecessary reality TV show is nothing but a waste of time and it is stalling important work like the USMCA. Montanans are sick and tired of the politics and partisan games being played here in Washington and frankly, I am too.”

Nearly 1,000 agricultural groups across the U.S. have endorsed USMCA. According to a report from the United States International Trade Commission, USMCA will create 176,000 new jobs, grow the U.S. economy by $68.2 billion, and increase agricultural exports by $2.2 billion.
