GOP Tax Bill Could Cost Montana $30m

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Thursday deadline for a vote on the GOP tax bill has come, and gone, but the Kentucky Republican is not done lining up support for a very costly bill– without a lot of benefits for senators to brag about to their constituents– The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projects over $1.4 trillion dollars added to the deficit, and even the most optimistic projections remain around a trillion, but it gets more costly close to home.

The Billings Gazette reports Montana’s state government stands to lose about $30 million as a result of tax reforms that could be voted on Friday by the U.S. Senate. Montana’s Department of Revenue advised the governor’s office that the tax bill would cut federal contributions to the state general fund by nearly $30 million over the next two tax years.
