Montana has been at the frontlines of a battle for our wives, daughters, nieces, and granddaughters for some time now. Montana is ground zero for the MMIW movement that is sweeping the nation.

MMIW (Murdered Missing Indigenous Women)

The statistics of this giant problem are mind-blowing. Every day indigenous women are at risk of violence, kidnapping, human trafficking, and even murder. Montana is no stranger to these tragedies. As Montana is home to 7 different Native American reservations and tribes.

These crimes do not always make headline news. This is why it is important for us to share the stories of these indigenous women with the world. To spread the awareness that our family, friends, and neighbors are being killed or kidnapped on a daily basis.

According to nativewomenswilderness.org

  • Indigenous Women (girls +) were murdered 10x higher than all other ethnicities.

  • Murder is the 3rd leading cause of death for Indigenous Women (Centers for Disease Control).

  • More than 4 out of 5 Indigenous Women have experienced violence (84.3%) (National Institute of Justice Report).

During a recent trip to Billings, MT, I ran into an old friend of mine. He is an investigator for Big Horn County, Montana. Even though he could not share much detail on some of his investigations, he told me that there are days when he feels like he is at war with an invisible enemy. Trying to uncover who is kidnapping women near the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations while also investigating gruesome murders of indigenous women all over the county.

Showtime recently unveiled the trailer for an upcoming documentary on Big Horn County, Montana.

The new series "Murder in Big Horn" premieres February 3rd on Showtime's streaming platform and will air every Sunday, starting February 5th on Showtime.
