Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Football is back this week! Following the bye week, our University of Montana Grizzlies are preparing for a battle with the Idaho Vandals inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 1:00 p.m. in front of an already sold-out crowd.

The Griz enter the game with an undefeated 5-0 record this season. In their last game, they narrowly beat the Idaho State Bengals 28-20. However, Montana has still outscored its opponents by a combined total of 201-57 this year. The Griz are also currently ranked No. 2 in the AFCA Coaches’ Poll and No. 3 in the Stats Perform FCS media poll.

The Vandals are 3-2 to start the year. They lost two close games to start the season against two Power-5 teams. They fell to Washington State 24-17 and Indiana 35-22. Since then, Idaho has won three straight and has a 2-0 Big Sky Conference record after beating Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado.

Little Brown Stein

The winner of this game will receive more than just bragging rights. The Little Brown Stein is once again up for grabs. Montana and Idaho first squared off 119 years ago in 1903. This will be the 88th meeting between the Griz and Vandals and Montana has dominated the rivalry over the last thirty years.

The Stein was created by UM student newspaper writer John T. Campbell in 1938. It cost $25 to make and was paid for by a group of students to be crafted by a local carpenter.

Since then, the trophy has traveled back and forth with the winner of the game. Idaho holds a 37-25-1 advantage in Stein games, but Montana has held the Stein for more than two decades. It has been in Missoula since 2000.
