Updated 11/7/22 - Release from Billings Police Department:

The initial release by the Billings Police Department indicated that one male had been located at the scene of a vehicle crash in the 200 block of South 29th Street and that this male had suffered a gunshot wound and later succumbed to his injuries.

The release also advised that two subjects had fled the initial scene. During the investigation Officers from the Billings Police Department were able to locate one of the individuals that initially fled the scene. This individual was determined to be an escapee from the Billings Alpha House.

The other individual has not been located but is a person of interest in this case. The Billings Police Department is searching for Branden Rock Above, a 22-year-old Native American male, described as 6’3” tall, 193 lbs, with brown hair, and brown eyes. Rock Above is also sometimes known to have short hair or a shaved head. Any information on the whereabouts of Rock Above can be reported to the Billings Police Department. Rock Above is pictured below.

Further investigation has revealed that the victim and Rock Above were escapees from the Great Falls Transitional Center. No charges regarding the homicide have been filed at this time.

According to the Billings Police Department Twitter, around 11:49 PM last night, Billings Police responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a parked car.

On arrival, BPD discovered the driver had been shot. BPD had the victim transported to an area hospital, where the victim was declared deceased.
