Employees were bustling Friday morning as Billings' newest outdoor retailer prepared to open its stores on Saturday (5/13) at 8 am. Smiling staff were tidying up end-caps, arranging merchandise, and applying last-minute vinyl on the windows. Sierra granted us an early bird sneak peek, and I was excited to check it out.

The new Billings Sierra will be the 82nd US location and the first in Montana. We reached out to Gennifer Hobbs, VP/Marketing Director of the company for a brief Q&A via email.

Are more Montana locations planned in the immediate future?

While Sierra has not yet announced a new store location for Montana at this time, but we are constantly looking for opportunities so stay tuned for more details!

What sets Sierra apart from other outdoor lifestyle stores?

As part of the T.J.Maxx Family of Brands, Sierra offers great value on active and outdoor brands that are all available anywhere from 20 to 60% less than department and specialty store prices, and with a vast selection of apparel, footwear and gear, Sierra has everything you need whether you are going on a hike, running a 5k, or just taking the dog out for an afternoon stroll.

Staffing issues seem common in Billings. Has the new store encountered any challenges and are you hiring?

Sierra is always looking for good candidates to apply! Those interested can find positions for hire at jobs.tjx.com, with multiple open roles at the Billings location currently, including but not limited to Retail Associate (part-time), Retail Department Supervisor, Merchandise Associate, and more.

Store manager Jocelyn Tooley gave me a tour on Friday, and I loved checking out each department. While I do occasionally shop at TJ Maxx and HomeGoods (read my HomeGoods overview HERE), Sierra is more appealing to me simply because I enjoy outdoor stuff.  Come inside and take a look!
