A Billings Police Officer is continuing to receive treatment at a local hospital after being shot by a suspect on Saturday morning, March 18th. This is now the second Montana police officer in two weeks to have been shot in the line of duty. A Great Falls police officer was shot in the chest and arm on March 7th.

The news also comes on the heels of the attack against a Montana Highway Patrol trooper who was run over last month by a suspect in Northwest Montana.

US Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) sent out the following statement in the wake of the news over the weekend:

Sen. Daines: Cindy and I are sending our prayers to the Billings police officer who was shot today protecting the community. I’m closely monitoring the ongoing situation. This is the second shooting of a Montana police officer in less than two weeks — a tragic reminder of the sacrifice and selflessness of our Montana law enforcement officers who wake up every day and put their lives on the line to defend our local communities. We must back the blue.

The Billings Police Officer was shot during a standoff on Birch Lane. As KTVQ-TV reports, the suspect surrendered following a 14-hour standoff.

Meanwhile in Great Falls, the police department gave an update on Officer Tanner Lee this past week.

Officer Lee’s bullet resistant armor stopped the shots to the chest but his arm sustained serious injury. Officer Lee underwent surgery and has been released from the hospital. Though the prognosis is positive, he will need further medical care, likely more surgery, and re-habilitation.
