The methane trapped under the City of Billings landfill is now bringing in some big bucks for the City of Billings.

$700,000. That's how much the City of Billings is getting from Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU) for the methane gas taken from the city's landfill in 2017, according to Billings City Councilman Larry Brewster.

Brewster joined us on Wednesday's "Montana Talks" radio show with Aaron Flint. The show airs Monday through Friday from 6-10 AM.

You can also look to see a similar operation underway soon at the water treatment plant in Billings.  Brewster tells us that the water treatment plant is looking to capture the methane gas from the sewage and then use that gas to power city waste disposal vehicles.
