The Billings Gazette reports that a man– shot by a Yellowstone County Sheriff’s deputy on Sunday morning at a residence in a Lockwood trailer park– is expected to survive, according to Sheriff Mike Linder’s office.

Two deputies, reportedly conducting a welfare check on a potentially suicidal person Sunday morning shot at the man after he appeared to be brandishing a handgun at the door of the home located at 1928 Canary Avenue., according to Linder’s Sunday afternoon press release. The unidentified man was transported to a hospital with a single gunshot wound that was not considered to be life-threatening.

No deputies were injured in the altercation, according to the sheriff, release. He told The Gazette on Sunday afternoon that he didn’t know whether the man had fired his weapon before he was shot. The shooting occurred before 7 a.m.
