On Friday afternoon, KGVO News received a press release from Sgt.Travis Welsh, Public Information Officer with the Missoula Police Department regarding the two officers who have been placed on administrative leave following a fatal shooting that occurred on September 2.

Update on A St. Incident

'Regarding the incident in the 800 block of A St. on Monday, September 2, 2019. Officers Chris Proper and Eric Weber have been placed on Administrative Leave with pay. Officers Proper and Weber have been with the department three and five years respectively. This action is per Missoula Police Department Protocols and past practice for officers involved in critical incidents.

According to the Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), body camera footage from Officers Proper and Weber indicates that the suspect, Steven Gill, had a weapon. Interviews with the officers indicate that they felt threatened by Mr. Gill’s actions.

The officers’ leave is pending further information received through DCI’s ongoing investigation. An internal review of this incident is also being conducted.'
