Montana Children’s Hospital Reopens After Patient’s Death

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana children’s hospital has resumed admissions after a patient was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The Independent Record reports that Shodair Children’s Hospital in Helena has also begun implementing safety improvements following the accident earlier this month.

The mental health hospital voluntarily ceased admissions for one week beginning July 15 following the death of a patient from Missoula.

Officials say the 15-year-old was struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 15 after running from the facility.

The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office says the girl’s death has been ruled as accidental.

Officials say the girl tampered with a fire alarm, which caused doors to unlock.

Officials say fire alarms at the hospital will be relocated to nurse’s stations while still meeting all fire codes.
