Montana’s Office of Consumer Protection is warning people who served their country in uniform that some criminals are trying to take advantage of them. OCP investigator Marcus Meyer said there are several potential scams aimed specifically at service members and military veterans. Meyer said “We know that veterans and active military members are targeted for these particular scams because they have a steady monthly income.” According to Federal Trade Commission data, “imposter scams” of military members and service veterans reportedly cost them approximately $25 million in 2017.
