The Billings Gazette reports that a former Shepherd man was sentenced on Monday to 80 years in prison for the murder of a Glasgow woman on New Year’s Eve. Jay Witkowski was sentenced in 17th Judicial District Court in Glasgow for commiting deliberate homicide in the killing of 31-year-old Evelynn Garcia. A plea agreement called for 70 years, with 10 additional years to run consecutively for the use of a dangerous weapon.

If Witkowski follows his sentencing requirements for chemical dependency and other programs in prison, he will be eligible for parole after 20 years. Charging documents suggest Witkowski stabbed Garcia before hitting her with a tire iron and later striking her with a car. Garcia’s body was found on January 30, 2016, on the side of a road outside Glasgow. Garcia died just days later.
