Three Cubs Abandoned After Mother Killed by Poacher Near Ovando, $7,600 Offered for Tips

The reward for information about a grizzly bear poaching that occurred earlier this month near Ovando was increased during Thanksgiving week.

"We've been looking for tips since and the original reward amount was $1000 offered from Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, and since then, due to some generous private donations, and an additional $1000 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, that reward amount potential has increased to $7600," said Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokeswoman Vivica Crowser.

The dead grizzly bear left behind three cubs, all of which were less than one year old.

"That was a concern for us right away," Crowser said. "We went in and were able to trap two of them and those cubs are being transported to The Bronx Zoo. The third cub, despite multiple attempts to capture it, is still out there. Any time you're looking for cubs this late in the year, there is still a small chance they can survive, but odds are, they won't."
