Two Plead Not Guilty to Billings Beheading

The two men accused of beheading a Billings man they’d just met at a casino denied the charges against them Thursday.

Q2 reports that 31-year-old Donald Cherry and 33-year-old Jeffrey Haverty pleaded not guilty in Yellowstone County District Court to the homicide charge for the murder of 41-year-old Myron Knight. Prosecutors argued against Cherry’s request for a lower bond, stating that he has a criminal history in Utah, and is a flight risk, according to prosecutors. The judge continued bonds at a half million dollars for each defendant.

Prosecutors said Knight was likely killed about three weeks before his body was discovered. Knight’s headless remains were wrapped in a carpet near what Billings police called a “transient camp” in November. Investigators determined Cherry and Haverty met Knight at the Montana Lil’s Casino on October 26th, the night of his death.
