Wolf trapping season got underway officially on Saturday, and only two have been caught so far, according to Ron Aasheim with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks.

Aasheim says this is the first season ever for wolf trapping in Montana, so there are no expectations of what numbers of wolves might be taken. The two wolves counted so far were both trapped in northwestern Montana.

Aasheim reminds hunters that no snares are allowed, which may mean fewer wolves will be trapped overall. There are very strict guidelines as to where the traps can be set, so that domestic animals will not be caught accidentally.

The wolf trapping season continues through the end of February.
