The 4th of July is just around the corner!  What are you doing?  I’m planning on enjoying a fantastic fireworks display right in my own front yard!

That’s because I live in Lockwood which is out of the Billings city limits and therefore fireworks are legal!  For those of you who don’t know, the Billings, Montana city code prohibits the sale, use and possession of fireworks within the city limits.  Offenders will face a fine of $110.

Now if you are wondering most firecrackers, sparklers, fountains and more are legally allowed in the state of Montana.  Bottle rockets, sky rockets and Roman candles require local approval.

As for where you can buy them. Fireworks stands will open on Thursday June 27 and stay open through July 5.   All of the fireworks stands are located outside city limits.  I know of at least four stands in the Lockwood area.  Two are on Highway 87, one next to Metra RV and another next to the Second Shift, another is on Old Hardin Road across the street from 3G's and a fourth can be found on Old Hardin Road across the street from Bretz RV and Marine.  You can also find a stand located on Highway 312 towards Shepherd.  There are more located between Billings and Laurel as well.

Also, as they have done for years, the Billings Fire Department plans to close public areas along the Rims from Main Street, along the south side of Highway 3, to and including Zimmerman Park during the 4th of July holiday.  The City of Billings will also close Phipps Park as well.

If you’re looking to go to a fireworks show, here’s where you can find that information!  Have a happy 4th of July and stay safe!
