2014 was a big year for Yellowstone National Park. According to Park spokesman Al Nash, The total visitors last year was the second highest ever.

"We had over 3.5 million recreational visits to Yellowstone in 2014. That was up significantly over the previous year," Nash said. "It makes the eighth straight year that we've had visitation top the three million mark."

The park borders Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, and although Montana only has a sliver of the park, most visitors choose to enter via the Big Sky State.

"The west entrance to the park at west Yellowstone is always our busiest entrance," Nash said. "We saw more than 1.44 million recreational visits through that gate alone in 2014."

The all-time visitation record is still held by 2010 when more than 3,640,000 people came to Yellowstone.
