President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning via Twitter that Montana’s Ryan Zinke is out, tweeting “Secretary of the Interior @RyanZinke will be leaving the Administration at the end of the year…” Zinke has been the subject of multiple ethics investigations, but blamed his resignation on the media. He’s the only Montanan to ever serve in a cabinet post. On December 4th, Scientific American published excerpts of a new report entitled “Science Under Seige at the Department of Interior” by the Union of Concerned Scientists documenting some of the most egregious, anti-science policies and practices at the DOI under Zinke, including the largest reduction in public lands protection in U.S. history, unprecedented constraints on the funding and communication of science, blatant disregard for public health and safety and systematic failure to acknowledge or act on climate change.
