What The Cluck? Popular Chicken Strips Being Recalled In Montana

Check your freezer and tell your friends to do the same. This famous brand of "chicken strips dinner" is being recalled nationwide because they may contain pieces of plastic.

Nearly a quarter of a million pounds of "chicken strips dinner" is being recalled by the USDA, as announced in early September, 2023. These frozen dinners were shipped nationwide and it's important that they are not consumed, as fragments of plastic may be present. Even if you know you didn't purchase this product, share the info with anyone you know who may have purchased them.

The frozen chicken strips entrees were produced on June 20, 2023, July 11, 2023, and July 17, 2023. The following products are subject to recall: 8.9-oz. carton containing one entrée of "BANQUET CHICKEN STRIPS MEAL" with best if used by "DEC 11 2024," "JAN 01 2025," or "JAN 07 2025" and lot numbers 5009317120, 5009319220, or 5009319820 located on the side of the carton.

Banquet frozen dinners aren't terribly fancy or expensive - their low cost makes them an attractive option at the grocery store. That's what makes this recall so big, with nearly 250,000 pounds of product involved. Many folks buy this frozen dinner as a cheap "backup meal". The announcement about the recall was made on September 2nd.

Conagra Brands, Inc, a Marshall, Mo. establishment, is recalling approximately 245,366 pounds of frozen chicken strips entree products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Apparently, someone did sustain an oral injury from biting into a piece of plastic in this product. (Some recalls are issued with just the possibility of foreign matter being in a product. But with this recall - a consumer actually found plastic in the chicken strips.)

"FSIS has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider. FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers' freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."
