Over The Weekend: Assault With Weapon & Fatal Crash In Billings

ICYMI, over the weekend the Billings Police Department reported two incidents:

First, at 7:48 am on Saturday, BPD reported a 2 vehicle head-on collision occurred at Lake Elmo/Jaque Lane.

Lake Elmo was shut down until Crash Investigators released the scene.

Second, at 4:24 PM on Saturday, BPD reported a 55-year-old female deliberately drove at and through a religious group gathered at 6th Avenue North & North 27th Street, several times.

The group was posted on the sidewalk at the time of the vehicular assault.

One person was struck and sustained minor injuries.

The suspect was identified as Genevienne Rancuret, and was later located by BPD Officers who arrested her.

Rancuret has been charged with 8 counts of Assault with a Weapon, Felony Criminal Mischief, and DUI.

BPD has since provided the following via a press release about this vehicular assault:

On December 9, 2023, at approximately 12:33 pm Officers with the Billings Police Department responded to numerous calls from concerned citizens and involved parties reporting a suspect that was driving a vehicle through a religious group that was gathered at this intersection.

The suspect drove at or through the group several times, damaging equipment, and striking and injuring a 45-year-old male. The suspect then fled the area. Medical responded for the victim and Officers were provided with a suspect description.
At 2:31 pm Officers located the suspect vehicle in the 700 block of Central Avenue and were able to initiate a traffic stop on it and take the suspect into custody. The suspect, identified as Genevienne Rancuret, a 55 year old local female was remanded into custody at Yellowstone County Detention Facility on the charges of eight (8) counts of felony assault with a weapon, felony criminal mischief, and DUI.

** Updated information** Per the FBI’s request this case has been forwarded to their office for review. As it is currently, the case will also remain under the review of the Yellowstone County Attorney’s Office.
