Come Taste the Fun. Food Truck Battle on the Yellowstone is Saturday (8/26)
Remember when Billings only had one food truck? No?
Khanthaly's Egg Rolls was the first food truck in Billings in the 90s, reported the Gazette (paywalled). However, it wasn't that long ago that food trucks were still quite the novelty in Billings. "OMG!," we'd proclaim. "Have you heard about this crazy new place that's a food truck?!" Selling food from carts isn't a new concept. It's been done for centuries, really. But the modern trend of food trucks in the US is credited to taco trucks in California in the 70s.
It only took 30 years for them to become mainstream in Billings.
Now there are probably at least 100 mobile food vendors in the Billings area and 60 of them will all be in one place on Saturday, August 26th. The annual Food Truck Battle on the Yellowstone returns this year with more of everything.
More food trucks, more entertainment, and more funds for a great cause.
Hosted by the Breakfast Exchange Club of Billings, the 5th annual food truck festival is a fundraiser for the Veterans Navigation Network, a Billings-based organization that helps facilitate a smooth transition for our local military servicemember's return to civilian life. The Exchange Club shares details about the Battle on its Facebook Event page.
The event will be held at the Armed Forces Reserve Center at 2915 Gabel Road. Over 60 food trucks will be on location battling to see who's the best! There will also be cold beer, live music all day, a fun area with free activities for kids, AND all proceeds from the event (10% of all food truck sales, and all profits from beer sales & gate admissions) will be raising money for Veterans! ...what more could you want?
Vets and active duty get in free, with ID. Adult tickets are just $5 and kids 12 and under get in free. The event has raised over $165,000 for vets since its inception. Now comes the difficult decision... which food trucks are you going to hit up first? Remember to cast your vote for your favorite.
