An adorable hotel in Red Lodge Montana is on the market.

If you've ever wanted to enter the hospitality business in one of Montana's favorite mountain towns, here's your chance. The Alpine Lodge in Red Lodge hit the market earlier this summer, and the turn-key operation is just waiting for its new owner to take over.

Will Red Lodge become "the next big thing" in Montana?

Honestly, we hope not. One of our favorite things about Red Lodge is that it hasn't really changed much in the last 30 years. Sure, there are a handful of new restaurants and businesses, and some subdivisions on the benches and around town have certainly grown. However, the growth of the community has been slow. 2020 Census data shows just 2,257 year-round residents. In 1990 the population was 1,979.

Fancy yourself as a propetier?

I have this delusional dream of owning a bar and restaurant in a small town in Montana. This is a total pipedream for a handful of reasons: 1) I have absolutely zero experience running a restaurant. 2) My only bar experience comes from the customer side of the bar, and 3) I don't have the capital for a $1M liquor license. Perhaps running a motel would be a better option.

On-site manager/staff living arrangements.

A big problem in Montana is affordable living accommodations. The listing for the Alpine Lodge states that the property includes a 2 bed/1 bath owner or manager living space as well as three RV's that are currently used for employee housing.

An outdoor paradise.

With over 3.6 million acres of public land just minutes from downtown Red Lodge, the enclave is a huge draw for recreationists of all kinds. From hiking and biking to hunting, fishing, and downhill winter sports at Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort, hundreds of thousands of people pass through town annually.
