Montana Should Stand Up to Biden, Stand Up for Hunters Safety
The Biden Administration is threatening to defund schools that have hunter's safety or archery programs. Crazy, right? We need more gun safety, not less.
John Lott, Jr. is the President of the Crime Prevention Research Center and the author of "Gun Control Myths." He now lives in Missoula and authored a piece for Townhall.com where he highlights the latest anti-gun efforts of the Biden Administration.
What the Biden Administration is doing, as Lott points out, is threatening to withhold federal funds from schools all across America who have these types of programs. Not only do these programs promote safety, they also promote conservation- as hunters are also some of our nation's greatest conservationists.
Here's an excerpt from his Townhall piece:
John Lott, Jr: The Biden administration’s interpretation of the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) will allow them to deny federal funding for schools with hunting or archery classes. The change will end schools having those classes. Federal funding for public schools is substantial and hard for schools to ignore, with the average state’s public school receiving about 9 percent of their budgets.
By the way, as Lott also points out- Democrat Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) voted FOR the legislation that Biden is using to threaten school funding. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) voted AGAINST the legislation.
I actually wrote about having hunter's safety in all of the schools back in 2022 when I attended the Governor's Panel discussion at the big SHOT Show in Las Vegas. As I wrote at the time:
I liked how Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) talked about how he grew up and hunter's safety was taught in the schools. Gov. Noem followed up and said that is exactly what South Dakota is now looking to do- put hunter's safety back in the schools for all of the kids to benefit from.
I look forward to Montana pushing back on this federal overreach. Let's double down and get even more hunter's safety programs in the schools in the wake of this threat from the Biden Administration.
