Two Yellowstone County deputies were sent to the hospital following a potential chemical contamination Thursday night. reports that, while investigating a possible home break-in on Ellington Ave. south of Billings, deputies reported some kind of chemical release and had difficulty breathing.  Billings Fire hazmat teams and the police bomb squad were called in.

Both deputies were decontaminated on scene and sent to Billings Clinic for further evaluation.  Police then sent in a bomb robot to determine if anyone else was inside the home.  Once cleared, hazmat crews entered the trailer and found a whitish-brownish powdery substance.

Fire Battalion Chief Ed Regal said initial tests found the substance was not hazardous.  Sheriff’s Capt. Bill Michaelis said both deputies were cleared at the hospital and went back on duty this morning.  Still no word on the woman who called 911.
